Huang Zejian 黄泽坚

Huang Zejian (b. 1992, Qingyuan, Guangdong) is a queer artist currently living andworking in Milan. He received his MFA from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in2018 after completing his BFA at the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou.

Working across photography, installation, soft sculpture, and digital painting, Huangspractice investigates the relationship between the body and information density in thecontemporary image environment. His works often begin with intimate bodily referencesbut gradually dissolve them into fragmented visual systems, suggesting how physicalexperience becomes increasingly mediated, coded, and redistributed through digitalnetworks.

In several projects, Huang explores the unstable boundary between private corporealityand public image circulation. One of his ongoing series involves inviting strangersencountered online to scan fragments of their bodies, transforming intimate surfaces intoabstract data-like textures. Through this process, the body shifts from a site of personalidentity into a field of visual information, questioning how intimacy, desire, and selfhood aretranslated within digital culture.

Huangs visual language frequently oscillates between material presence and digitadisintegration. In his photographic and digital works, landscapes or bodily fragments areoverlaid with delicate, almost diagrammatic line structures, evoking networks, nervoussystems, or drifting informational signals. Meanwhile, his soft sculptures compress ordistort bodily forms, creating hybrid objects that appear both organic and synthetic, vulnerable yet technologically mediated.

As a queer artist, Huang approaches the body not as a stable identity but as a fluidinterface where sensation, memory, and data intersect. His work reflects a broadercondition of contemporary life: the tension between lived experience and the acceleratedcirculation of images. In an era when visual production is increasingly automated andalgorithmic, Huangs practice asks how the **body-slow, fragile, and intimate-continuesto generate meaning within an overwhelming field of information.
