Taipei Dangdai Art & Ideas

Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, 9 - 12 May 2024

Nan Ke Gallery is pleased to announce that the solo project by artist Meng Zhou will be presented at the 2024 Taipei Dangdai Art & Ideas (booth DG16). The project continues the artist's exploration of mysticism, mythology, and anthropology, and through the combination of paper-based and installations, it reproduces the journey of condensed time and space.

The works on paper exhibited on site are from the artist's new series Forgotten Lore. Ink outlines the forgotten gods in ancient legends, their shadows lingering in memory, persistently pondering and pursuing. Their essence is intertwined with the spirit of the times, requiring a great symbol to unite all corners of the earth - north, south, east, west.

Forgotten Lore reappears like a symbol. This symbol is like a bright lamp, guiding through the mist of time and illuminating the Once Forgotten path of darkness. It anchors the current collective consciousness and provides a continuity in the evolution from generation to generation. Through it, the echoes of the ancients resonate, bridging the gap between the past and present, injecting ancient wisdom into the modern world.

On an entire wall of the booth, the artist enlarged one of his representative artworks. The entire wall is designed as a background resembling a mural cave, and the 88 meteorites arranged on it are inlaid into the 88 constellations. Meteorite stones seem to come from meteors outside the sky, transforming into light and dust, subtly changing the world - erasing fine lines and rings, forming the cornerstone of life. As it descends, its cosmic fragments are injected into the soil, nourishing the roots of trees intertwined with ancient stones. Every particle carries the whispers of the universe, leaving eternal marks on flowers and leaves. Through the gift bestowed by this day, the ordinary is moved by the sublime, and all life is thus bound together by a thread of stardust.

This solo project presentation is not only a review of the artist's past creative process, but also an imagination and inspiration for the modern and even future world. Through the exhibition, the audience is led into a fascinating and mysterious world, engaging in dialogue with ancient gods, and experiencing continuity and change in the long river of time. Zhou Meng's works are like a bridge, connecting ancient wisdom with contemporary civilization, injecting ancient wisdom into the modern world.
